Frequently Asked Question

Open CHADIS encrypted zip file
Last Updated 5 years ago

CHADIS uses comma-separated value (CSV) files to provide data. CSV files typically use a comma for the field separator, a carriage-return/line-feed pair as a record separator, double-quote characters to surround text that contains either the field separator or the record separator, and double-double quotes to include a double-quote within a quoted field value.

You can find more information about CSV files on Wikipedia:

Encryption Tools

When using ZIP encryption to protect the privacy of our patients' data, we use a tool which supports AES encryption instead of the “Zip 2.0 compatible” encryption which is weak and unacceptable to use for transporting patient data.

Here is a list of freely-available tools that support AES encryption in ZIP archives:

• jZip is a free archive manager for Microsoft Windows (http://www.jzip.com/)
• PeaZip Portable is a free "portable" archive manager for Microsoft Windows that does not require installation (http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/peazip_portable/)
• WinZip is an archive manager for Microsoft Windows (http://www.winzip.com/)
• Keka is an archive manager for Apple macros that can be found in the Apple App Store or for free from their web site (http://www.kekaosx.com/)
• 7-Zip is a free archive manager for Microsoft Windows and Unix-like operating systems including Apple macros (http://www.7-zip.org/)

Still having trouble, even with an unarchiver installed? Try this:

1. Download the zip file and save it to your desktop.

2. Go to your desktop

3. Right click on the file

4. Hover over 7zip in the drop down menu

5. Select 'Open Archive'

6. A new window will open

7. Double click on the PDF listed in the window

7. You should be prompted to enter a password
